Family life in the 1950s was picture-perfect, or so it was depicted in popular television shows like “Leave It to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best.” Gender roles were fixed, and everyone, from the looks of things, was happy.

The play “Home, I’m Darling” questions this nostalgia as it introduces a husband and wife in England on a quest to be the perfect 1950s couple. Was theirs the perfect life or the perfect lie?

Synchronicity Theatre presents the southeastern premiere of “Home, I’m Darling” onstage through Oct. 29. In this interview, Director Rachel May and actor Bethany Lind, who portrays “Judy” in the play, joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to speak more about the play.

“These characters try to find safety in thinking, ‘Well if we do it this way, if I play this part and you play this part then it will all work out fine,’” Lind said.
