Surfers, serial killers and split personalities — essentials for any good beach party. At least, in the kaleidoscopic queer camp universe of Charles Busch, the playwright behind “Psycho Beach Party.” The classic offbeat comedy by one of queer theater’s most influential stars closes out this season at Out Front Theatre Company, directed by Paul Conroy, on stage May 2-18.

“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Conroy and Busch tell us more about this wickedly funny summer romp in revival at Out Front.

“People are chasing each other, everyone is running for their lives, the look overall, the word I keep coming back to is cartoonish,” said Conroy. He continued, “This show helped me realize that there was a lot within the community that was fun and joyful, and we could be silly like everybody else.”
