In 1907, the foremost Yiddish writer of the time told the young playwright, Sholem Asch to burn his script for the play “God of Vengeance,” but Asch did no such thing. He wasn’t afraid to address themes that didn’t depict all Jews as part of a model minority.

“Asch just really wanted to depict Jews as human beings to be seen as flawed human beings, just like everyone is flawed,” said actor Brian Kurlander.  “Indecent” is a contemporary play about the controversial story of “God of Vengeance,” and it’s onstage now at Theatrical Outfit.

“City Lights’” host Lois Reitzes spoke with director Mira Hirsch, along with actors Kurlander and Pamela Gold.

The play is on stage now through March 29.
