A massive wildfire near the Georgia-Florida line has spread to nearly 30,000 acres and remains just 10% contained, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission. Crews are working to contain the Pineland Road fire in Clinch and Echols Counties, but dry conditions are making it difficult to contain.

Another fire, the Highway 82 fire in Brantley County, west of Brunswick, has forced local evacuations and destroyed at least 54 homes, local officials said Wednesday afternoon. That fire covers nearly 5,000 acres. It was 15% contained as of late Wednesday night, but officials said shifting winds have caused the fire to move and spread, so the containment level continues to fluctuate.

“This thing is a very dynamic situation that’s changing in a matter of moments if the wind kicks in a certain way,” said Brantley County Manager Joey Cason.
