SCLC Conducts Justice for Girls Roundtable
An Atlanta based civil rights organization this weekend sought to join an ongoing effort to curb sex trafficking.
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference held a roundtable discussion at Emory University this weekend. House Bill 141 was introduced last month, requiring strip clubs to post information for the national anti-sex trafficking hotline. Victim advocate Dr. Stephanie Crumpton says that while the bill is a step in the right direction, it’s not nearly enough.
“What’s funny to me, what’s making me giggle is that black churches are sometimes down the street from the strip club. And sometimes the members of the church are in the back room of the strip club. It will take some digging for us to examine what accountability — because that’s what that bill is calling for — what accountability in-house looks like.“
The SCLC’s Justice for Girls program is still in its early stages. They are planning more roundtable discussions and fundraiser early next month.
