The play “Fat Ham” reinvents the story of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” experienced through the strange journey of a Black American family and our hero, a queer college kid named Juicy.

In the new Pulitzer-winning play by James Ijames, the ghost of a young man’s father, murdered by his own brother, demands vengeance. Ring any bells?

Lauded as “hilarious” and “brilliant,” Fat Ham has come to the Alliance Theatre Hertz Stage, where performances continue through May 26.

“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes was joined by director Dawn M. Simmons and actor Marshall W. Mabry IV, who performs as Juicy.
