The Asian American Advocacy Fund brings a Lunar New Year casino night to Poncey-Highlands on Feb. 27, pairing live music, casino-style games and food with an art showcase and auction featuring 13 Atlanta-based Asian American artists. AAAF calls the event “Bet on Your Future.”

Nicole Kang, AAAF’s creative communications manager, described the group as a “social welfare organization” that focuses on “politically engag[ing] the AAPI base here in Georgia.” Kang said AAAF’s work includes “voter engagement, electoral programs,” as well as “community and cultural organizing” and “a lot of storytelling.” She added that the organization’s arts programming helps AAAF build connections across communities in Georgia.

What to expect

AAAF frames “Bet on Your Future! Asian Casino Night” as a nightlife-style Lunar New Year celebration rather than a family festival, and organizers encourage guests to dress up for a night they say draws inspiration from films such as “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Mood for Love.” Kang said the programming highlights multiple Asian cultures — from games popular with Cambodian and Vietnamese families to live music by a Filipino artist, Angie Acedera — while bringing together local AAPI business owners and restaurateurs.
