On the “City Lights” series “Speaking of Art,” local artists share insights into their influences, processes and experiences in town.

This edition focuses on paper artist Alex Wolf. “I specialize in creating organic subject matter in a linear style with hidden Easter eggs of information about the subject matter,” says Wolf.

As an artist, Wolf finds Atlanta to be very convenient, not only because of the galleries, artists, murals and opportunities to make art, but also because of access to references to subject material.

“So we have tons of museums in Atlanta, we also have access to the Botanical Gardens, so that means that you can go take pictures and draw and take in information about things from around the world that you normally wouldn’t have access to,” Wolf said.

“And then you can go down the street to the aquarium and see animals from around the world. So it’s really given me an opportunity to practice and hone my technique and my style because I’m never going to run out of reference imagery … it’s always there, and it’s always growing.”
