On the “City Lights” series “Speaking of Poetry,” Atlanta’s most prolific wordsmiths discuss the art of evoking emotions with words. This “Speaking of Poetry” edition features poet and author Katie Chaple.

“My current poetry has undergone a shift since my first book (Pretty Little Rooms). I’ve started turning more and more away from epiphanies at the end of poems,” said Chaple.

“That kind of realization,” she continued, “I guess because it started feeling dishonest to me. The more I write, and the older I get, I discover how little I know.”

She grew up in the Georgia suburbs but moved to Atlanta when she got older to experience the city’s excitement and opportunities. Chaple is also the editor of Terminus Magazine, the literary art magazine published by Poetry@Tech. She also teaches poetry and writing at the University of West Georgia.
