The union representing Transportation Security Administration workers warns the federal shutdown is taking a toll on workers at Atlanta’s airport.

Every day, TSA workers at Hartsfield-Jackson International stop a nationwide record-high number of firearms and other weapons from making it onto planes. Now local union representative Aaron Barker tells WABE’s “Morning Edition” those essential officers will still have to show up for work without a full paycheck indefinitely. Many, he sighs, are already struggling amid inflation and economic uncertainty, and working other part-time jobs to pay their bills.

And, he tells WABE, members of Congress who could prevent the shutdown are still getting paid.
