Spelman College on Tuesday announced an expansion of its partnership with the National Education Opportunity Network (NEON), which is on track to enroll 600 high school students in college-level courses in the upcoming school year.

Formerly known as the National Education Equity Lab, NEON is a nonprofit organization that supports economic mobility for disadvantaged scholars by bringing college-level courses to Title 1 high schools. In these government-recognized schools, 40% or more of students receive free or reduced lunch.

How did the partnership begin?

Spelman and NEON initially partnered in Spring 2023, launching with “The Education of Black Girls,” taught by Andrea Lewis, Ph.D., director of the Student Success Program and an associate professor of education at the college.
